Hummarabi's Code

hello,

today in class, first we reviewed all of the slides we went over yesterday. Then we went over new slides and Hammurabi's Code. The notes from todays class are;
  • Sumer
    • had a Pantheon ("hall of fame") of Sumerian God's and Goddess'
    • created the worlds first story ("Epic of Gilgamesh")
    • started time (one hour is 60 min, and 60 seconds)
    • Zigguari
      • a Sumerian temple built on top of a mountain
    • conquered by Akkadians in 2350 BC
  • King Hammurabi
    • King of Babylon
    • first known leadership
    • created Hammurabi's Code
      • included "an eye for an eye" style
      • laws for marriage, divorce and punishment
Three of Hammurabi's Codes that I found interesting are;
  • If a man has broken into a house he shall be killed before the breach and buried there.
  • If a man has divorced his wife, who has not borne him children, he shall pay over to her as much money as was given for her bride-price and the marriage-portion which she brought from her father's house, and so shall divorce her.
  • If a son has struck his father, his hands shall be cut off

Extra Free Mod

So today during west civ, Mr. Schick thought that we only had mod 2 for the class but we actually had 2 & 3 so we had mod 3 off! But before that, we got our textbooks for class and took notes. My textbook is in really bad condition which sucks but I just hope I don't lose it! Anyways, here are the notes from todays class:
  • Prehistoric Era
    • the origins & ages of humans
      • 200,000 - human species emerged from Southwestern Africa
      • 14,000 - world wide human race existed
      • Paleolithic age (earliest era - stone age)
      • Neolithic age (marked by using tools - new stone age)
    • Initially, humans were part of migratory groups which hunted, fished & gathered.
      • Ag. Revolution (Neolithic Revolution)
        • shift from hunting and gathering to farming
        • populations rose (able to care for young)
        • hierarchies appeared
        • invention of wheel & plow
        • villages were polytheistic
    • Sumer
      • occupied land between Tigris & Euphrates rivers
      • population increased drastically from food
      • cities and towns were founded (+40,000)
      • better food storage (more diverse jobs)
      • Kings emerged & families took over
      • invented the earliest form of writing called "cuneiform"

Not Normal

Today in western civ, (so much different from in human geo) we went over everything for the new class. I really didn't pay attention because I know what's going to happen. But apparently we need a text book which no one in the class has. It is so different without Grace. But its easier now that this is the second time I'm doing all of this. We are also missing Matt, Devin, Zach, Daphne, Barwick, Cooney, and Dominick. And now we have a small class. It was really quiet for most of the class besides when Arri was having computer problems. We really didn't do much today so I guess class will really start on Monday. Until then goodbye!
