today in class, first we reviewed all of the slides we went over yesterday. Then we went over new slides and Hammurabi's Code. The notes from todays class are;
- Sumer
- had a Pantheon ("hall of fame") of Sumerian God's and Goddess'
- created the worlds first story ("Epic of Gilgamesh")
- started time (one hour is 60 min, and 60 seconds)
- Zigguari
- a Sumerian temple built on top of a mountain
- conquered by Akkadians in 2350 BC
- King Hammurabi
- King of Babylon
- first known leadership
- created Hammurabi's Code
- included "an eye for an eye" style
- laws for marriage, divorce and punishment
- If a man has broken into a house he shall be killed before the breach and buried there.
- If a man has divorced his wife, who has not borne him children, he shall pay over to her as much money as was given for her bride-price and the marriage-portion which she brought from her father's house, and so shall divorce her.
- If a son has struck his father, his hands shall be cut off
